Strategies of Interpretation II: Highland

The program for a course, Strategies of Interpretation II: Highland and accompanying public lecture series will create the opportunity for the University and Charlottesville community to interrogate further the issues of historical interpretation and its public presentation. In collaboration with James Monroe’s Highland, teams of interdisciplinary students will address the challenge of reinterpreting Highland in light of new discoveries about its history by creating an interpretive plan and models for new exhibitions. Using strategies of design thinking, they will learn how to construct and present a revised narrative about Monroe’s plantation that addresses the needs and interests of diverse audiences.
