This program is inspired by Thomas Jefferson’s vision of shared learning with a mission to produce public awareness of the national debt beyond the classroom. This new course is currently supported by the Darden School’s Institute for Business in Society (IBiS). Jefferson Trust funding will support enhancement of the course’s end product, a video series aimed at educating young adults. The course involves students from many schools across Grounds gathering with a faculty leader and invited faculty speakers to share, question, and learn about the history and formation of the national debt and the consequences of its continued growth, in particular its consequences for young adults. In cross-disciplinary teams, they will investigate an issue more deeply and produce a video module to be included in the UVa student-developed online educational series on the national debt.
