Project Spotlight

Hoos First Look

UVA’s first ever fly-in program aimed at bringing socioeconomically disadvantaged juniors in high school to Grounds. The program focuses on giving these prospective students the experience of being on a college campus, providing them with resources on the college-application process and financial aid/scholarships, forming strong friendships with each other and mentors, empowering them to achieve academic and personal success, and inciting interest in UVA. UVA students receive the opportunity to be leaders and mentors, learn valuable interpersonal and technical skills, and grow from their experience of working with low-income and/or first-generation students. Overall, this program’s mission is to increase socioeconomic diversity at the University and encourage undergraduate students to foster a more inclusive community on Grounds through active participation in the program.
