Hoos Connected is a University-wide campaign designed to help UVA students build cohesive and supportive peer connections that demonstrate the value of forming deep, caring relationships with others who are different from themselves. The program is experiential and educational, allowing students to develop interpersonal skills and supporting them in reaching out to others. The experiential component involves students participating in small heterogeneous groups over the course of 12 weeks. Group sessions will last 1 hour and be led by trained University staff and/or UVA alumni. A structured curriculum includes exercises aimed at identifying barriers to connection, establishing trust, and recognizing shared human experiences. The educational component has students who complete the groups spread the message of connection into the community through marketing/outreach. The goals of Hoos Connected are to promote intergroup dialogue and increase belongingness for all UVA students.
