Developing Future Research Leaders in Sustainability and Research

In 2015, the Jefferson Trust supported the Developing Future Research Leaders in Sustainability and Research Project with $72,500 in funding. One project supported by this grant allowed  students to produce Aqua.litative  — a kinetic media installation that renders data sets of California’s water history into mechanical movements and acoustic sound. This allowed viewers to visually experience the tension between water supply and water policy.

Stan Winston Arts Festival of the Moving Creature

This 2013 Jefferson Trust $15,000 grant engaged students from University of Virginia’s School of Architecture and the Studio Art and Drama departments in a collaborative workshop to research, design, and construct “creatures” that came to life for The Stan Winston Festival of the Moving Creature. Stan Winston (Col ’68) was one of UVA’s most successful arts alumni and became one of Hollywood’s greatest masters of creature design and fabrication.
