Project Spotlight

Virginia Center for the Study of Religion

The Faculty of the Department of Religious Studies founded the Virginia Center for the Study of Religion (VCSR) in order to bring pioneering and multidisciplinary academic research on religion to the University and general public. Their goal was to establish the VCSR as a leading regional, state, national, and international voice in the public study of religion. While established by the Department of Religious Studies, the Center operates as an organ of the University and serve as a gathering point for students, faculty, and the broader community to meet and discuss critical issues regarding religion and public life. The Center focuses its energies on supporting, challenging, and mentoring undergraduate students, so as to promote thoughtful, imaginative, and careful discussion of religion in the public sphere.
