Project Spotlight

Virginia Cancer Health Disparities

The Geo-Health Interdisciplinary Research Group (GIRG) is a newly established group with interests in health geography and understanding the geographic impacts on disease. This multi-disciplinary research group is composed of members from the School of Medicine (Surgery & Public Health Sciences), the School of Nursing, and the School of Architecture to bring together a variety of perspectives to work toward a common goal. The project involves studying cancer incidence, control and care throughout the state of Virginia. The project will involve undergraduate and graduate students and researchers from different disciplines to provide a more detailed understanding of the current state of cancer care and control in the Commonwealth, and look at factors that contribute to disparities within it.
