The HeArt of Medicine is a new program piloted with 40 nursing and medical students in the fall of 2013. Three workshops will be held in October and November, all of which focus on exploring end-of-life issues through artistic avenues. The instructors for the workshops will be Chaplains, Doctors, Curators, and Nurses who work in the Charlottesville area. Subsequently, a Jeffersonian dinner will be held in January to invite participants to reflect on what they have learned and provide feedback for program improvement. Funding will help to organize the HeArt of Medicine program for the next three years following the project’s schedule of events. As the program matures, elements derived from this program shall be integrated into the standard curricula for medical and nursing students.
