Project Spotlight

Team-Based Guided Inquiry Laboratories for Introductory Chemistry Students

The introductory chemistry laboratory courses (total annual enrollment of 1430 students) are being transformed from a “cookbook” paradigm to a guided inquiry approach. The new courses will provide a more genuine experience in laboratory science, emphasizing team-based intellectual engagement, curiosity, inquiry, discovery, creativity, and critical thinking. Students will work in four-person teams to conceive, plan, and execute their own experiments, present their results in formal sessions to their peers, and describe their work in lab reports written in the style of scientific journals.
