Project Spotlight

Restoration/Conservation of the 1926 Model

The project’s purpose was to conserve and restore a model of the Academical Village, constructed to represent the University of Virginia and the Commonwealth of Virginia at the 1926 Philadelphia World’s Fair. Conservation of this model meant more than its release from storage and return to the School of Architecture; it meant that this historic treasure of the University was appropriately saved from further deterioration and preserved as an artifact for generations of future, students, School of Architecture employees, and U.Va. visitors to enjoy and learn from. Depicting the Lawn as it appeared before the major construction of the 1920s, this model provides a glimpse into the past and is a physical and spatial representation of one of America’s most prominent landmarks.
