The Raven Society renovated and restored Room 13 West Range, the Edgar Allen Poe Room. Among the University’s most recognized historic landmarks, the Poe Room presents a number of exceptional challenges in renovation specific to the room’s history and status as a historic site. The floor, walls, door and shutters all require maintenance. The Society enhanced the historical accuracy of the room by replacing the room’s furniture with more realistic representations of the furniture the hotel keepers provided the students during Poe’s time. These changes and renovations, along with a provison for improved lighting, ensured that the Poe Room continues, through the life of one of the University’s most famous and accomplished former students, to educate and inspire members of the University Community and our thousands of annual visitors for many years to come.
