McIntire Department of Music graduate student, Jon Bellona, received his second research grant funded by the Jefferson Trust. In 2013 Jon Bellona, a Ph.D. student in the McIntire Department of Music, was one of three scholars who received funding though the Open Grounds grant for the Arts and Environmental Challenge. His project, #Carbonfeed, sought to illustrate the carbon footprint of the simplest digital behavior – a tweet – through music and movement. Jon, along with John Park and John Reagan, is now a recipient of another fellowship funded by a Jefferson Trust grant. This time from the 2015 grant project “Developing Future Research Leaders in Sustainability and Resilience.” Their latest project, Aqua.litative, is a kinetic media installation that renders multiple data sets of California’s water history into mechanical movements and acoustic sounds, where viewers kinetically experience the tension between water supply and water policy. Listen and watch.
